How we help you

The HSE Quit Programme has one goal - to give you the help and support you need to quit smoking for good. If you prefer you can see one of our smoking cessation officers in person or join a group. It's the same programme with the same goal. If you want face-to-face or fancy joining a group then the Quit Team can help you get in contact with someone in your local area or you can find details here.

You get in contact with us, by phone, live chat, Facebook, or by signing up through the Quit Plan and requesting a callback.

You set your quit date when you are ready and decide if you will use medication to help. If you are not ready for this step, we will wait until you come back to us when the time is right for you.

We will get some information from you about yourself, your lifestyle and your smoking habit.

We will answer all of your quitting queries, after all that is what we do best! There will be some questions that you may need a GP or pharmacist to answer for you, but we can certainly point you in the right direction.

Preparing yourself ahead of your chosen quit day is essential. You should have your medication (if you are using any) in proper order and make sure to rid your house and workspace of any cigarettes, ashtrays and lighters etc.

We will call you on your quit day. From there you can choose what level of support you will need. At the very least we will schedule a weekly call to discuss your progress and any concerns or queries you may have.

You can call us any time you like outside of our scheduled calls. We are here to help you get through cravings, answer any questions you have or discuss your progress to date. It’s not all about the struggles either, we love to hear from people about how well they are doing too!

We do like to have a scheduled check-in with you after 3 and 12 months to see how you are getting on. But if this is inconvenient, you can tell us to go away, we promise not to be offended!
